The general store originated in the 1850's under the name: Taylor & Moore General Store and known as the only place to trade in the small community of Valle Crucis, North Carolina. In 1897, Taylor sold half interest to another pioneer by the name of W.W. Mast. The store was then named the Taylor and Mast General Store. In 1913, he became the sole owner of the store. The Mast General store is a true staple of North Carolina heritage with now 11 stores spanning North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The original store in Valle Crucis is 50 minutes away from the hotel, the Boone and Asheville locations- 1 hour away.
